Making fermented beverages is a lot of fun

For starters, fermenting your own beverages can be a lot of fun. It’s a creative process that lets you experiment with different flavor combinations, and it’s also a great way to learn about the science of fermentation. Plus, it’s a great way to save money. Commercial beer, wine, and spirits can be expensive, but fermenting your own at home is relatively inexpensive. Bye bye inflation! Welcome cheap beer and cheap wine that your taste buds will love!

Perpetuate the tradition

Our ancestors did it! Our ancestors, over the centuries, have created many family recipes for beer, wine, cider, mead and other fermented beverages. Making your own beer was almost as natural as making your own bread.

Some of these recipes have endured over the ages, most have been lost. Often, they made alcohol with their limited means and what they could procure locally, as you will soon be able to do.

For example, the first settlers in America, used to drinking wine made from grapes, found themselves confronted with a climate less suitable for grape growing. Their appetite for fermented beverages, however, had not changed.

They then began to make fermented beverages from the ingredients that were available to them. You could drink real spruce beer or real birch beer back then.

Make good wine with fresh fruit or cheap beer with real grains

Several families over the centuries have made wine with blueberries, with strawberries, with raspberries. Others made apple cider or mead with locally produced apples or honey. The possibilities were and are still immense, even growing given the variety of products and fresh juices that can be found in grocery stores all year round.

Yet if you go to your local liquor store, you will see that they have a wide choice of grape varieties, but as soon as you want to tease your taste buds with more exotic or more refined flavors, the choice quickly becomes limited and often the cost of the product is enhanced.

Make cheap but great wine from $ 1.50 a bottle and beer from 30 cents a bottle!!!

You will notice that making your own fermented beverages is in many cases much less costly than buying it ready-made and the product is of equally good or most often, better quality. We’re talking here about saving a lot of money! I’ve made countless batches of 100 bottles of wine for 1.50$ per bottle up to 7$ per bottle depending on the quality of the kits I’ve used. Nowadays, it’s hard to get a decent bottle of wine for less than 15$. Imagine getting 10 bottles of the same quality for the price of 1? That’s what we’re talking about here!

Make cheap beer

If you make your beer from a kit of malt extract, you can make a beer for around 30 cents a bottle!

30 cents! Yeah!!! That’s a little more than a quarter per beer bottle! Isn’t is amazing? That’s what I am talking when I say that you can make cheap beer at home!

Tired of swallowing chemicals?

Very important, you can also control which preservative you want to put in it (some recipes do not require any) and in what quantity you want to put it.

The biggest reason, appart from the low cost, to try making fermented beverages at home is that you can control the ingredients and the quality. When you make your own beer, wine, or spirits, you know exactly what’s going into it, and you can be sure that it’s free of additives and other chemicals if you decide so. So if you’re looking for a healthier, more natural way to enjoy your favorite drinks, fermentation is the way to go.

I don’t want migraines from sulphites!

Homemade wines contain about ten times less sulfite than commercial wines. Knowing that many people have allergic reactions to sulfites, this element is of great importance.

Some studies have also showned that sulfites can lead to migraines. But if you make your own wine, you can make it sulphite free! Bye bye headaches!
